"Goochland County has the best preserved public courthouse square in Virginia, and the most architecturally perfect Jeffersonian courthouse in existence today." Gibson Worsham, Architectural Historian.
The Goochland County Historical Society (GCHS) invites all Goochlanders to be part of the preservation and celebration effort.
GCHS has asked Glave and Holmes Architecture, Richmond, Virginia, to oversee the Goochland County Courthouse Green project. GCHS has charged the architectural firm with two goals: (1) to guide the careful restoration of the historic Goochland County jail as an educational site, helping to interpret the county's rich history and (2) to restore additional historic buildings on the site and improve access to the 18th and 19th century public square, so that it can become a cultural and social center for the entire community.
GCHS's success depends on the commitment of Goochland's communities who share our vision and conviction that we shall all benefit from the proposed improvements and continue to learn from our past, strengthening and informing our future. Quite simply, history never stops.
We can make history together, improving Goochland County, and leaving our legacy - our appreciation of the past and lessons to be learned from it - for future generations. Please consider donating today by clicking on the Donate section on the previous page.
