The Cabell Library at the Goochland County Historical Society enables researchers, students, teachers and others to have access to the records of Goochland County's past while preserving historical materials for future generations. It is a well-organized collection of various types of reference materials. Collection strengths include local history of Goochland pertaining to colonial history, the Revolutionary War, the Civil War, religions and religious movements of the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, the Anglo-American slave trade and conditions of slavery in the United States, American biography and genealogy.
Tracing your family history will prove to be a rewarding adventure. Genealogy is more than just names and dates. It is the social history of your ancestors.The Goochland County Historical Society library houses an enormous amount of Goochland history and genealogical information, including many family histories.
The Society offers a limited research service to members and non-members. Specific inquiries regarding Goochland ancestors will be researched in the Society's files and among selected sources in our collection and at the Goochland County Courthouse. The sources consulted will be tailored to the individual inquiry. The service is limited in its scope, and is not intended to duplicate the work of a professional genealogist.

Inquiries should provide as much detail as possible regarding names, dates, places, and should indicate what sources you have already examined. Please indicate the specific questions which you would like to have us research.
