Fall Society Meeting

Please join us for our Fall Meeting at Goochland Baptist Church. We are pleased to have Alexander Barnes as our speaker. He will discuss America’s involvement in WWI. Afterwards the Society will conduct a wreath-laying on the graves of three WWI soldiers who are buried in the church cemetery. 

Mr. Barnes was born in Niagara Falls, New York, and grew up in an Air Force family. He enlisted in the Marine Corps in 1974 and then joined the Army National Guard in 1977, retiring as a Virginia Army National Guard chief warrant officer in 2004. He retired from US Army at Fort Lee in July 2015 after 30 years of service as an Army Civilian. He has a master’s degree in Anthropology and authored “In a Strange Land: The American Occupation of Germany 1918-1923,” “Let’s Go! The History of 29th Infantry Division,” and “To Hell with the Kaiser: America Prepares for War,” a two-volume set describing America’s entry into WWI. He is currently serving as the Command Historian for the Virginia National Guard.


From Richmond, take Rt 64 West to the Rockville-Manakin exit (173).At the light, turn left onto Ashland Road.At the light, take a right onto Broad Street.Then take a right onto Manakin Road.Go about 2 and a quarter miles. The church is on the left.
